Knightia excelsa, commonly called Rewarewa (from Māori), is an evergreen tree endemic to the low elevation and valley forests of New Zealand's North Island and Marlborough Sounds.
Also known as the New Zealand Honeysuckle Tree, it grows to 30 m tall, with distinctly bright red flowers to attract bees.
Rewarewa honey is rich in hydrogen peroxide; which must be present for our immune system to function correctly and fight infection. It is known for its antioxidant properties, and has traditionally been used for centuries in healing skin problems, killing bacteria and aiding in wound healing.
Our Rewarewa honey has a definite reddish brown tint to its colour, and has a strong, full flavour with a hint of malt.
